Manhattan, N.Y. City - thru Saturday, March 15th - A not-fully-alternate-plumaged Black-headed Gull has been observed-photographed at the Central Park reservoir, after a brief bit of confusion as to identification, with most observers having seen it only as-of Saturday, 3-15, but the rare gull may have been intermittently coming to the reservoir at times for some days, recently. A scope and some patience may both be useful if wishing to re-find this. Other gulls at the reservoir in Central lately have been the usual-3 species, Ring-billed, American Herring, and Great Black-backed Gulls.
A pair of Canvasbacks lingered on thru Saturday just-north of the West Harlem piers, on the Hudson River north of W. 125th St. in Manhattan with many many observers coming for close views on Friday, then again on Saturday, after the finding of this duo of ducks by L. Pistolesi -of Rockland Co., NY. The area can be accessed via the Hudson River Greenway path which runs right up along where viewing is most-likely, should the Canvasbacks remain. Use some caution as both vehicles and cycles are in use in this area. An overwintered Northern House Wren was among a good many birds still lingering on Randalls Island thru Saturday. Other birds there include a variety of wintering sparrows, including Chipping, Savannah, and multiple others. Also ongoing at Randalls was an Orange-crowned Warbler into Saturday. American Woodcocks were ongoing on Saturday, with multiple observers still coming to see this species at Bryant Park in mid-Manhattan in particular, although other locations also have had the woodcocks as well. Many more species of lingering, and some more-recently arrived birds are being seen, by many observers.
