Don't know if it's a big deal or not ,but I haven't seen one in the Adirondacks. I had an immature Bonaparte's Gull flying around the center of town in Lake Placid between Mirror Lake and the public parking lot just off NY-86 below the Crown PLaza Hotel on the hill.
