Dear All,
I wanted to let you know that I have finished clearing the East Pond South End trails all the way to the pond side. Birding note: At present, the pond is not navigable for unseasoned visitors. Those unfamiliar with sudden drop-offs or “sticky wicket” areas should avoid attempting to wade in. I have refrained from pushing toward the Raunt and beyond myself, primarily to avoid disturbing birds when feeding areas are already so limited. If the dry weather continues, we may see lower water levels, but progress has been slow and, frankly, frustrating given how much farther along we should be by now. If you wish to voice your concerns to the National Park Service, you can contact the Acting Superintendent of Gateway National Recreation Area at: [email protected] Best regards, -------- “A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.
