I find if you know that you've got valid HTML and CSS then it's much easier to track down problems -- you're less likely to be getting masking effects or triggering extremely obscure browser bugs with clean, valid code. You probably don't need to get obsessive about every last warning but it's definitely worth fixing up errors.
