A website I look after is hosted on a shared IIS server and in the summer months gets about 14,000 visitors per month. The owners want to start using video a lot on the website and from what I can gather progressively downloading Flash Video will be the way to go.
We will want the videos to be higher resolution than is provided by YouTube and don't want its branding either. My questions are: The current shared web hosting has fast response times for your standard web page but is shared web hosting usually able to keep up with the demands of streaming video? I have heard that PHP can be used to stream FLV video. Does anyone have experience or recommendations with this? Given I have no experience developing in Flash is there any good quality and cheap specialist progressive download Flash Video hosting services that people know about that could be used in a similar fashion to YouTube, i.e. upload the video file and it converts it to FLV for you, etc. Any recommendations would be welcome.
