I completely agree with you there. When I sold Linux distros I frequently had issues with this. Also some people really *do*not*like* PayPal and will refuse to pay with them. On the other hand I did have a couple of people say they only bought from me because I *did* use PayPal. You win some you lose some... The other problem with PayPal is the checkout process ends up with too many additional steps. And at each point you risk losing your customer. I remember they once changed the way it dealt with phone numbers being passed in and I had customers emailing me saying they couldn't place an order because they were being told their phone number was invalid. I think PayPal may be OK to start with but I think for any future ecommerce type situations I'd build myself I'd always go with DPS. If you want to be serious about ecommerce you need to spend money on a good payment platform and DPS is really easy to integrate.
