Paul, your story reminds me exactly why I use a MacBook Pro. :-) Unix with the niceness of media support + having a virtual machine or basecamp with Vista/XP to play games on if I ever want to. And not having to worry about viruses anymore is pretty rocking. Which is not to say I'm not still careful!
Also all the open source software is amazing. The only thing I need to pay for is TextMate, VMWare Fusion and the OS itself which came with the computer.
