Hi Stefan, I have had some experience finding 'lost' network devices, my method is to:
Turn off network device. Connect network device directly to a network card on a machine. Start some kind of packet capture on the machine such as wireshark - filter for ARP packets. Turn on network device. You should get a few ARP packets with the device asking nicely to give it an IP address...
