I just tried to send a parcel to Invercargill and the nzpost staff
told me it would cost me $22 when in fact I have checked on
nzpost.co.nz and it was $9.50.

So I told them about it but they still insisted telling me that
there's no way they'll send it for $9.50, because Invercargill is far
south. They told me may be I didn't select Invercargill correctly,
etc, etc.

So I went back home (I live very closed by) and printed out the
calculation from nzpost website and shown it to them (politely of
course, I still want the parcel to arrive in one piece). The printout
clearly says from Wellington to Invercargill then the dimension and
weight and shows the cost as $9.50.

I also pointed out how their calculation of volumetric weight was
[blatantly] wrong. And this is where I almost got charged the extra
$12.50 (because something or something can not do basic math!).

Volumetric weight? what's that? well ... check this out ... nzpost
website has the formula ...
http://www.nzpost.co.nz/Cultures/en-NZ/ProductsAndServices/PIP/VolumetricWeight.htm

It basically is the volume (width x height x thickness) in kg
multiplied by 200 ... if volumetric weight is more than the normal
weight ... you'll pay for the greater one

As soon as I showed my printout to them, they backed off and only
charge me the $9.50 as printed from nzpost website.

This makes me wonder how many people have paid multiple times more
than they should to send their parcels.

I love nzpost.co.nz and Internet :)
