Hi All, I just had a customer alert me to a bug in a site, which I haven't been able to replicate. I politely asked her to confirm the browser and version she was using, and she came back with 'Firefox' but no version number.
I'm not all that keen to go back to the customer asking for a specific version number - that would leave me looking like an incompetent ass because I can't find the bug (we're all familiar with the 'males asking for directions' thing). So I did some digging around in the logs to try and see what she was really using. I managed to find 'Mozilla 4.0' and that's all I got. Obviously, Mozilla/4.0 shows up in a thousand different user-agent strings, but I didn't think any of them were Firefox. I thought Firefox always had Mozilla/5.0 in the user agent? This fairly large list of user agents (http://www.user-agents.org/index.shtml?moz) seems to confirm that. Is anyone familiar with a version of Firefox that might show up as Mozilla 4.0, or is it more likely that I'm dealing with someone who thinks they're using Firefox but are actually using IE? Somehow it would make more sense if this is an IE bug dressing up as a Firefox bug.
