I kid you not - less than 3 minutes after sending this message I have it sorted - Murphy's Law... 1. A permissions screw up meant that /sapphire/ was 777 - should have been 755 - thanks to the error logs for pointing that out... 2. Don't point _config.php to a theme that *doesn't exist* = all you'll get is the White Screen of Abject Denial. Setting it to the correct screen will get you the Colour Screen of Eternal Bliss that you were seeking.
