Hi all,

we've just confirmed a sponsor for the upcoming PHP meetup next week,
which means we'll have pizza and beer for 40 people available on that
night. Right now there are 22 RSVPs, so that means 18 more lucky
people can attend this outstanding event.

To confirm your attendance, please go to http://php.meetup.com/10/ and RSVP Yes.

I will also keep an update on Twitter (http://twitter.com/automatem)
up until about 6:40pm on actual attendance for late comers.

Please invite anyone along for the best PHP UG meetup on the planet.

Further details below:

Meetup:

24 Sep 2009 6:30pm - 9:00pm

Computer Science Seminar Room, Room 279, 2nd floor, Computer Science
Building (Bldg 303), City Campus.

How to get there:

The building is located on the corner of Wellesley Street and Princes
Street. To get to room 279, enter campus either from the Symonds
Street side or Princes St. and find "Red Square" - an open area
bounded by the old wing of building 303, the Student Association
complex, the recreation centre, and the Chemistry / Geology etc.
towers. On the southern side of the square (which is really just a car
park roof) you see the glass front to the reception area of the
Faculty of Science student centre. To the right of the student centre,
there is a set of doors & as you enter you'll see stairs going up on
the right. Ignore the stairs and head straight past the vending
machines, turning left into the corridor to the overbridge (you'll
notice the department's computer museum "timeline" on the right-hand
wall). On the other side of the overbridge, you'll end up in a lift
lobby. Head up to 2nd floor. Room 279 is straight opposite the lifts
as you come out.

*** Main topic ***

Object Oriented PHP

Speaker: Ulrich Speidel, Auckland University

About Ulrich

Ulrich Speidel (born Ulrich Günther in 1967) trained as a physicist in
Germany and Auckland, where he then completed a PhD in Computer
Science, founded his own business, got married and thus ended up with
his present surname. He is now a senior lecturer at the University of
Auckland. He has authored, co-authored and edited a number of books on
PHP and related subjects for O'Reilly in Germany.

Topic overview

Objects can be confusing for programmers who, like many PHP users,
come from a non-programming or non-OO programming background. PHP
itself changed its object model between version 4 and 5, which added
to the confusion. This talk shows you how to use PHP5 objects in
simple everyday programming starting from a non-OO perspective. Topics
covered included classes, instantiation, properties, methods, the
magic methods __set() and __get(), and inheritance.

We are expecting that this meetup will be distributed through live
video. We have yet to confirm that web address for this.

We are also looking for a pizza and beer sponsor for this meetup.
Please get in contact with me, if you'd like to sponsor this meetup.
In return we will give you  the opportunity to present your business
on live video for 2 minutes.

Kind Regards,

Jochen Daum
