A quote "managed server" in the lingo of bulk hosting companies is not what you think it is. "Managed" means they are responsible for hardware failures and they provide you an internet connection plus I.P. addresses. That's it. All my clients servers - I know how each system is setup and what it's doing - and I maintain it (In the real sense of the word) accordingly. Most web developers prefer the cheapest price and as such this is not work I look for. The $100-200 'all you can eat' deals in the US are not the same thing. They are there to cater to a demographic that is different to what I work with. Dedicated hosting in New Zealand is for top tier sites and those who aspire to be there (and importantly can back it up). As I said it's not the sort of work that I actively seek, because there are only a few businesses in NZ that can see these sorts of projects through to reality, but I am happy to post commentary and answer questions as the need arises to contribute something back to the list.
