Hi Michael,

If you're prepared to work for free in return for a bit of coaching
and mentoring, why not sign up with one to the many open source
projects out there?

Any project worth its salt has a bug tracker with a large number of
feature requests & you could choose a couple of simple ones to start
on. I'm sure that once you have started implementing a feature you'll
easily be able to find people in the discussion forum for the project
who will be only too happy to review your code & offer pointers.

The best thing is that because it's an open source project you'll be
able to show your work to prospective employers (which isn't always
the case with closed source code).

Regards

Bruce

When a co-worker said he didn't want his kids getting the H1N1 vaccine
because it was too new and "they haven't tested it enough", I blurted
out something like, "So you'd rather test a new and poorly understood
virus on them instead?"

I'm not entirely proud of fighting vague and irrational fear of the
unknown by invoking vague and irrational fear of the unknown, but I
think it did make an impression.
