It will certainly help for selling the idea to customers. It was already easier with Facebook and (more locally) Environment Canterbury dropping support. The big problem is with larger organisations still (due to very very poor decision making) having a) a dependency on IE6 specific features for their internal web-based systems, and b) an IT staff incapable of allowing the users to have a better non-IE browser, e.g. Firefox, thus relegating IE6 to the "browser that's only used to access that nasty legacy system".

Amazingly, there're still lots of them around.

At Egressive, we explicitly dropped support for IE6 about 6 months ago, but find that some customers still insist on it (and are willing to pay our substantial "hazard pay" extra charge for doing so). I think that price incentives are a reasonable way to go.

Cheers,

Dave

Do you think I can sell this to clients?

I’m jumping for joy at the thought of it!
