I was on Godaddy briefly in late 2006 to early 2007, so this may all
be ancient and out of date. Their PHP was old, their site addition
function was unreliable (As in you always had to check that the site
had added & try again if it didn't) and they only provided DNS if they
were also the registrar of the domain name. Add to that the big one:
hosting wasn't core business for them.

Personally I use an FDC Servers virtual server, all they do is hosting
and (within the limits of what they do) their help desk is highly
efficient. Unfortunately I can't recommend them for the OP as I have
no idea what their end user shared hosting is like (I don't even know
if they sell it).

Over the years I've found that my satisfaction with hosting providers
is a direct function of how many servers they have and how much
hosting is their core business.
