I first started using Rails just over a year ago and am now a complete
fanatic. My interest started from working with Symfony and the
profound effect that adopting test driven development had on my work.
After finding out that a lot of the inspiration for Symfony came from
Rails I decided to have a look at it, and haven't looked back since.

I don't think the argument of 'throwing away' experience in another
language holds true. I tend to find the patterns from one language or
framework inspire you to work in new ways with the others you know.

I'd highly recommend those that like the PHP MVC frameworks who
haven't looked at Rails to look at it, and for that matter Django. My
original background was in Perl, and whilst I don't miss it it's nice
to work with a more complete language again.

I've been thinking for a while of giving a Rails demo to interested
developers here in Christchurch, would be good to get a feel if there
is any interest from the PHP community.
