Hi Aaron,
Thank you, that was exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. It
is much appreciated!
Minor feedback
1. Too tall on the iPhone. You have to scroll to get to the lower nav
which
is not the norm on the iPhone in my experience. I understand this isn't
an
"App" however.
Just to check, have you saved the app to you homepage and then opened
it from there? When you open the app in Safari the navigation bar at
the top of the page takes up some additional space. When you open the
app from the 'desktop' you don't get the navigation bar and it fits
properly. We're still looking for a way to detect the difference and
'shrink' the app when you are in the browser view while still allowing
touch scrolling.
2. Icons are not great res. They look very blurry on my iPhone 4 and
could
probably do with a bit of vert space.
Thanks for letting me know. We've been testing on an iPhone 3G and
iPhone 3GS so the resolution is a lot less. I understand that the 4's
resolution is double the 3?
The thing that is immediately clear to me however is non technical:
3. Actions section is "coming soon"
Yup, we are working on actions as we speak :-) This will sync with
your personal action as well as any project related actions.
4. Timesheets is just a manual entry grid for each day of any given week
So my major feedback would be: What is the goal of this app? As it
stands,
it seems to be a timesheet program for manually entering time that you
have
to keep track of yourself anyway, and not in any way linked to a given
task
or project.
On it's own you can have multiple tasks on any given timesheet, but as
you say it is just a grid with hours worked per day of the week per
task.
If you have an account on Psoda with project tasks allocated to you
then those will appear on your timesheet as well (after syncing),
allowing you to log time against project tasks. When you sync again
the time will be uploaded to the server and update your project tasks
with your actuals.
There are quite a number of applications, especially for the
iPhone and Adobe Air that do all of that. But the main reason why people
look for these apps is to save themselves from keeping conscious track of
time over multiple projects whilst working. I.E. A start/pause/stop timer
and project/milstone/task heirachy.
We are looking to add in a start/pause/stop option that will
automatically time your work on tasks. That is a next step. I know
there are many similar apps, but none of them integrate with Psoda :-)
5. Finally, the one issue I have with Safari based "apps" on the iPhone
is
that unless their navigation is very clear, it is too easy to forget the
fact that you are viewing a web page (rather than an app) and hit the
browser back button. Thus leaving the application altogether. An example
is
hitting the sync button. Takes you to a login form. First reaction is to
hit
the browser back button. Second reaction is to press the login form's
cancel
button. "Don't make me think".
If you save the app to your homepage and then use it like a normal app
then you won't have a browser navigation bar, or a browser back
button :-) Do you think it will help if the login form has a back
button like the other pages rather than a cancel button?
Looking at this, It is nice use of HTML5, but I don't really see any
functional use or productivity
improvement in it (yet), even if I was using your PM solution in
conjunction
with it.
Hopefully the productivity improvements will come as we add more
functionality like the stopwatch and the action list. The main aim to
start with was to provide an app where you can capture your time
against ad-hoc or project tasks while offline and then sync back to
the server to submit for approval.
Not sure if you were after application specific feedback, technical level
feedback, or both. But there it is.
That was great feedback thanks!
Take a look at "Billings" by MarketCircle for some ideas. There is a free
version in iTunes and it is very slick indeed. Time Edition have the
basic
model of these things done well too. However I get the feeling
Projects/Milestones/Tasks will need to play with your PM model first and
foremost.
I'll have a look at those and see how we can incorporate some of those
ideas as well.
Thanks,
Bruce
