Hillsborough Junior Athletics Club (HJAC) is a non-profit
incorporated society providing athletics for children aged 2-14 in
Hillsborough, Auckland. Results are tracked using a web based system
with PHP scripting and a MySQL database. The system was developed by
a former committee member of the club, and it was his first PHP project.
The system, while basic, operates satisfactorily, but does require
some changes. For example, originally the different athletic events
were a fixed list - unexpectedly it has changed so that new athletic
events are available for children. So the system needs to be changed
to allow for more athletic events. Since the number is small, this
could be hard coded (once familiar with the system, this should take
less than an hour to do) - the more adventurous developer might allow
the club to be able to add their own events at will; the
infrastructure is there to do it, but there is no interface to allow it.
None of the development work would ever be urgent - lead times are a
minimum of six months.
So the club is looking for someone to take this under their wing. The
club has a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the code,
and may modify it as they see fit. The system also needs a new
hosting facility.
This may suit someone who is willing to contribute to the community,
helping children, at no charge, for the experience and a glowing
reference. Or it may be someone who wishes to negotiate a chargeable
rate with the club. The club could apply for grants to cover any
significant costs of development.
