The Nakamura master branch (1.5.0-SNAPSHOT) has just moved from an old unsupported snapshot of Solr/Lucene search software to the recently released 4.0.0-ALPHA release:
http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.cms.sakai.oae.devel/930 WARNING Deployers of the cutting edge, deployers who have standalone Solr servers (which should be all of us), and deployers of customized Solr indexes will need to make some changes to match the update. Most obviously, a new version of the Solr server directory needs to be used. (On the positive side, the binary can now come from Apache and will actually match their documentation.) Less obviously, a number of schema.xml field type names have changed. TOPICS FOR RESEARCH So far as the Solr team is concerned, the big news about Solr 4 is its drastically improved support for clustering and near-real-time updates: http://wiki.apache.org/solr/Solr4.0 These are both improvements of great (burning, even) interest to the OAE, and figuring out how best to leverage them seems as if it should be a high priority for project leaders. Speaking for myself, though, I don't think I'll be able to do the figuring. Any takers?
