As suggest offline by [~ianeboston]:
expose some stats (not time series!) to make it easier to monitor the state of
the observation queue, in particular:
* number of items in queue
* number of items entering queue
* number of items leaving queue
* percentage of queue size compared to the upper limit by when events get
collapsed
