bq. the default implementation of the replacement getMembershipPrincipals calls
the deprecated method getGroupMembership that is up for removal. i see why we
have that today but it still feels a bit wrong.
We can fix that separately, and then we'll have to produce a new path for
OAK-7358 anyway.
