The reason why we want to update the index asynchronously is that when using 
synchronous updates, we would need to handle conflicts, or avoid conflicts. 
Conflicts can arise when multiple Oak processes (clients) try to update the 
index concurrently. Property indexes are synchronous, and do have functionality 
to count - this is done by _avoiding_ conflicts, in 
ApproximateCounter.adjustCountSync - but it requires quite a lot of storage 
space.
