The official, approved minutes of the city Corporate Services and Economic
Development Committee have been received by Citizens for Safe Cycling and
are available from the City Clerk's office. They show that Councillor
Peter Hume did in fact vote against a city cycling advisory committee on
March 21, as did Councillor Herb Kreling. This is what CfSC previously
reported here.

The following week, on March 28 at the City Council meeting, Peter Hume
spoke about citizens advisory committees. He did not correct or change his
stated position at Committee, and in fact spoke at length against adding
more citizens advisory committees.

Tom, you and other cyclists who live in Peter Hume's Alta Vista ward, and
in Herb Kreling's Orleans ward might want to get back to your elected
representatives to ask them to be more supportive of cycling in the future
and noting your disapointment with their past lack of support.

This is especially important with budget deliberations and approvals in
the next few weeks that will affect city cycling programs. CfSC will be
posting an update here soon about the cycling budgets and how one $150,000
item (approximately 1/3 of the total support for cycling programs) is
incorrectly $0 this year's budget. I hope you and others will respond to
that upcoming Bulletin and again tell your elected representatives that
support for cycling should not be reduced in the new city, but in fact
should be expanded.

For now, here's where to contact the two councillors who voted against a
city cycling advisory committee:

Peter Hume [EMAIL PROTECTED] 580-2488
Herb Kreling [EMAIL PROTECTED] 580-2471

Many other city councillors spoke very supportively of citizens advsiory
committes during the MArch 28 Council meeting. We will report more of
thoser details in the CfSC email list / newsgroup.

We are not perfect but as the city's most experienced and leading cycling
advocates and educators, we work very hard to get the facts straight, time
after time.

Past President, Citizens for Safe Cycling
