greg, you've found the bike mart! and it's just an easy 3 day drive from
Ottawa to Dallas (from experience) ...though it could be shortened with less
sleep or a nice flight.
the bike mart pretty much blew me away in terms of selection. You can buy
almost anything related to a road, triathlon or track bike (not to mention
all the mtn bike stuff... where are the mtns though in Dallas??.. oh, there
is a rather tame IMBA track in Plano somewhere). and how many shops actually
have their own tandem/recumbent sections?!
now, if only the riders on the Saturday morning rides would learn to do
echelons properly, then the wind wouldn't be that bad at all. I was in A
rides with around 50 people and only the front 6 were riding an echelon
while all the poor people behind the echelon were all doing the same work as
the lead rider... go figure!
i guess all those flat, long and windy rides helped lance get tough :) a
read of lance's book, 'it's not about the bike' was quite neat for me as a
lot of the things lance described about richardson and plano were so true
and i had meet some of those same people.
hope all is well in richardon... and for those in ottawa, i hope the spring
is warm and the roads good for cycling. I must admit I still miss the xc
skiing in the winter, but i can't complain with year round cycling down
here.
For those I haven't spoken to in a while, my wife and I have been racing a
lot of multisport races so though my cycling is reasonable, I'm becoming a
strong runner and kayaker (sea, creek and whitewater) as well. The
multisport scene here is amazing and Ottawa would be a perfect place for
multisport events with the numberous rivers, and the great cycling (road and
mtn). I hope to experience the Ottawa area on a visit sometime Feb-June 2002
and will be sure to meet up with some of the ottawa crew. if anyone wants to
see what NZ multisport is like, check out www.sportzhub.co.nz. In the race
sections there are some good photos from the races.
cheers, jason (in Auckland, New Zealand)
ps- the beer here is great! nothing like a good old speights and some footie
on the tele!
