Subject: [obc] TOUR DE GATINEAU PARC

TOUR DE GATINEAU PARC

The Tour de Gatineau Parc is on weekly starting this Wed monring at 0700
leaving from Gamelin gate.

Last nite after supper, I did the mandatory race director course inspection.
I headed out for the Gatineaus from Andrew Hayden Park in Nepean. After
warming up on the Ottawa river Parkway I headed into Gatineau Parc. It was
wonderful riding the parkway with the gates still closed. The sun was
starting to set and as I rode it appeared off and on through the still
barren trees. It was ultra cool riding the loop only 3 weeks after skiing
in full coverage on 8 April (there was still some snow on the side of the
parkway, but no traces of Dave McMahon out on his rock skis)! By the time
I finished, I caught the sun setting over the Ottawa river as I headed back
to Andrew Hayden Park. As much as I enjoyed riding the Santa Cruz mtns last
week in California, for some reason, I find I can't beat the local riding.
Perhaps its because I know the terrain so well and no the exact gear
selection for each hill perfectly !

For those who are unaware, here is how the Tour works. Every week, points
are handed out for intermediate sprints as follows, with an ongoing tally
from week to week:

Last to Pinks: 20 pts
Penguin Picnic Field 5,4,3,2,1 pts for top 5
Fortune Lake Pkwy: 20, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Champalin: 5,4,3,2,1
Blacks: 5,4,3,2,1
Pinks: 5,4,3,2,1
Stage finish (Mtn Road sign): 20, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

In between the sprints, the peloton MUST slowdown and regroup. No hammering
until Penguin Picnic Field or the race director will deduct points. No
going hard until bottom of the hill that any given sprint ends on. Points
will also be DEDUCTED for POSERS who show up with race wheels. No discs
allowed on this course !

Hope to see many of you out there.
