I road across it on Sunday. As previously stated, the north end (Quebec side) is
stone dust hard packed and is cyclable. However, there is only ONE path for both
directions on the Northbound (east) side of the bridge. A short stretch is quite
narrow, but I was able to ride all the way across. Another hazard is they have put
the construction signs on the sidewalk, making it narrower in spots (sandbags).
Cyclists timing is important so that they don't meet at one of these signs. The
other problem is crossing back to the soundbound lane after travelling down the
northbound side of the bridge. At the end of the path you can do a U-turn and go
under the bridge and then back up the other side. If not, you could be waiting a
few minutes before a break appears in both directions in order to cross the road.
The other option is to take the roadway, but it is impossible for cars to get past
a cyclist as the lanes are very narrow. If I were to ride across on the road, I'd
occupy the lane and pedal like hell. Most motorists will go slow anyhow because of
the lane widths and condition of the road, but if you get some wingnut behind you,
you could be in for a noisy ride across.
