Please note changes to the Montreal "Short" Tour on Saturday 28th July 2001.

The OBC Van was booked but I have agreed that the OBC racing team could make
better use of it for a trip to Nova Scotia. I wish them luck and many wins.

James will be using his car and can carry three extra cyclist and their
bikes. John Barnhardt has already claimed one of the three spots. I will be
charging $10.00 to cover the cost of gas. (big car), more if car is no full.

Other cyclist who plan on going and can carry a extra cyclist & bike,
please inform James as soon as possible.

Unless you are already in Montreal
on the date of the ride I ask you all to meet first at my residence to
insure that all who wished to go can be accommodated.

This year I plan to change the "Short" tour a little to give those who would
like to do a walk around to all the shops in Old Montreal a chance to do so.
James will stay put at the waterfront and mind the bikes.

I would also like to change the route to travel along the Sea-wall of the
Sea-way to Point Champlain were we will cross to ILE_DES_SOEURS and then to
Verdun were we will take the bike path West to meet the end of the Lachine
Canal, from there we will follow the Lachine Canal East to have lunch in
Downtown Lachine. We will continue East were we will take a short stop at
the Atwater Market before following the bike path to Old Montreal
were I will allow time to visit the shops before heading to Lafontaine Park
and Velo Quebec for a short visit. We will then travel up to the top of
Mount Royal by the horse buggy path for ice-cream returning East again to
cross 1/2 of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge to return to St. Lambert from St
Helens Island. A quick cleanup at Mcdonalds and dinner at the Piazzetta in
downtown St. Lambert. Then it's back to the cars to travel to Ottawa.

Depending on time spent at each stop we may have to adjust the trip.

James plans to check out this new route prior to the ride. Wife wants to
visit sister in Montreal. However only a small portion is unfamiliar to me
and I do have a map. The only unknown is the fact that when in Montreal last
year we found that they were rebuilding all the locks of the Lachine Canal.
this may cause minor detours.
Cheers, James
