RAMM - Race Across AMerica Jun 22, 2001 10:26 PDT This Daily Update is from: http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/ Riders position: http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/2001%20Riders/raam2001.htm Report 1 June 22, 2001 (Campo, Oklahoma, the Border) The miles of frigid temperatures and dizzying heights come to an end here. For the leader of the 2001 Insight Race Across America, Andrea Clavedetscher of Liechtenstein welcomes the change. "I like the heat", the 40-year old Swiss Champion whispers in broken English. He may like the heat, but he has stretched the lead in the cold. Clavedetscher now leads Rob Kish of Florida and Danny Chew of Pittsburgh by 7 hours and 13 hours respectively. Hes done so with a blistering speed average of 14.27 MPH. The quiet spoken Clavedetscher is surprised to hear of the margin he currently has, but is taking nothing for granted. "I was here, the same place, in 1999", he shouts to us from his bike. That year after controlling the lead for the first 1,500 miles, Clavedetscher finished 4th. One of many attributes of this amazing race is honor. To assure the honor and accuracy of the competition a small army of men, women and even small children serve as RAAM Officials. The Trease Family of Harold, Lynn and 5-year old Henry are keeping tabs of the lead pack of Clavedetscher, Kish and Chew. "Its real good", proclaims the precocious Henry. His father points out, "Henry isnt captivated by the racers. Hes more interested in digging rocks". The next 12 solo racers of RAAM 2001 are digging their own kind of rocks. Digging hard, pedaling out of the mountainous areas of Central Colorado. Racers running 4th through 10th have some work to do in the next 48-hours. Andrea Clavedetscher is 40-miles into Oklahoma and the wind is at his back Filed by Scott Johnson, Zabadooo Productions, 10:30AM RAAM Time, CST. ____________________________________________________________________ ------ To unsubscribe, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Club Office: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web/mailing list: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.cyberus.ca/~obcweb Newsletter: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.cyberus.ca/~obcweb/Newsletter ==^================================================================ EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?aVxiDo.a2i8p1 Or send an email To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This email was sent to: [email protected] T O P I C A -- Register now to manage your mail! http://www.topica.com/partner/tag02/register ==^================================================================
