It's now nearly the end of August. You've trained hard this
Spring. You've hammered and been hammered on numerous Club rides.
That PB in that TT last month is still sweet, but Oh - - the pain...
Confidentially now, aren't some of you just a wee bit glad the big
races are over and those honking Vermont climbs have long receded
from the rear view mirror? Or maybe, you're getting a little tired
of the same old routes?

How about rewarding yourself with the last Club **OOTT of the
year? You've earned it! Your choice of a leisurely (OK - you can
still hammer if you must) metric or imperial century through bucolic
landscapes; a hill hater's paradise although those 401 overpasses
can break up a tired group.

The routes are almost devoid of traffic and the aroma of
freshly mown hay is all around. Your group, whirring in unison,
devours the miles effortlessly, witnessed only by the Holsteins,
Jerseys and Guernseys. But they're indifferent and bored - yaawnnnn -
another warm and sunny day. The Dorsets and the Lincolns won't
even notice you, intent as they are baaa'ing their way toward that
elusive greener patch of grass. The lamas always appreciate a
friendly visit though, especially if it comes with a carrot or two.

Your overnight destination is the NavCanada training
facility on the shores of the mighty St Lawrence in Cornwall. The
College features hotel quality rooms, bars, a gym, sauna, weight room,
tennis court, swimming pool, billiards, ping pong and a vast expanse
of manicured grounds for your strolling pleasure. Live entertainment
will be provided for the more socially active.

The slightly modified return route on Sunday will take you
by way of the W.E. Burton Conservation Area in Russell, an oasis of
quiet on the banks of the Castor River. This is the site of the
annual Club picnic where riders from Ottawa will join you for food,
fun and frolic and escort you back home.

Visit the OBC office now for more information and to pick
up your application (or sweet talk Rosmarie into mailing/faxing you one).
The SECT 2001 - a great way to start winding down the cycling season.
