A few thoughts about TTs. I do Time Trials for these reasons:
Personal Challenge
See if I can stay focussed for 15K
Social Aspect in the Parking Lot and Mugs
For the Fun of it.
I come out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and 40Ks. I come out on PB days, windy days, on
days after a long weekend ride. This has been my regular routine for many years.
I ride for myself and compare my times to my own PBs, and naturally to the riders in
front of me and those behind me so I can gauge my personal progress. I come away from
these TT feeling exhilarated. I know how much energy I need to expend to stay in the
24s, I'm in awe of the fast guys in the 19s, 20s.
Most of all I'm in awe of Herman. Do you remember his accident a few years ago? He
hobbled in to the Biker Banquet on two canes? To make such a fantastic comeback this
year is incredible. Herman certainly did an outstanding performance this year, he of
all male participants deserves the Men's Trophy. Considering my spectacular fall in
the August 23 TT, I am pleased with my performance. Yes we should have separate
Trophies by Gender.
Whether the club has a Handicap Trophy it doesn't matter. I'm out there anyway. It's
a bonus and an honour to be awarded the Women's HandicapTrophy. I really appreciate
the fact that the Club, after so many years, took the initiative to create a special
Trophy for the women.
Let's stop taking ourselves so seriously. Come out, relax, and have fun.
