Bravo Rod,

I really like the look of the page with the "splat" background and the club logo with
faded
background. Very attractive.

I say let's get the disk space we need, whatever it is, so that we can make this stuff
available. I
would love to have the Grand Prix pictures available from the race site.

Now, Ron has a very high-res digital camera which has obviously created
correspondingly large JPEGs.
At 500KB for a pretty good jpg, we could store a couple thousand images in a gigabyte.

That would still give Ron a market for his CDs with the higher quality images (if in
fact, he wants
to do that).

We could even further reduce the quality of the enlargements on the site (100-150KB?,
which is still
quite good for screen viewing and email) and let people order the high quality images
through the
office. Maybe make a profit on this?? Higher price for non-members, cost only for
members.

I have uploaded "thumbnail" photos of all of Ron Elmer's 2001 photos
to the OBC Web site at:

http://www.cyberus.ca/~obcweb/thumbs/

The web pages are very crude - ie - the people in the photos are not
identified or anything. If there is anyone out there who knows
absolutely everyone in the Club and would like to document the
photos, I can lend you the software to annotate the images 'for
posterity' and then we can put captioned photos on the web site.

Ron is also willing to burn a CD-ROM of any photos you want for $5 to
cover the costs. Ron is volunteer and it costs him fuel and time to
attend events and archive the photos onto CDs, as well as wear and
tear on his camera gear. We are lucky to have him documenting our
events. If you want photos, go through the Club Office to place an
order. If you see your mugshot in one of the line ups, you can thank
Ron by buying a CD-ROM.

The thumbnails take up about 6 MB of web storage. Unfortunately, I
cannot upload larger images because we do not have the space (our
max, I believe is 20 MB at present). We would need a minimum of 340
MB. The originals take up 2850 MB (2.85 GB) - good thing I bought a
40GB drive last year!

The above page is not linked to the OBC home page yet, so keep the
above link until we get that done.

Enjoy!
