"Snowbirds" with "True Grit"
I good way to describe this first OBC Tuesday Night Tour of the season.

I really did not expect anybody to show up as it was calling for 2 cm. of
snow and it look like it was about to fall.

However, "Tuesday Night Tours" are not predictable at best so James was
there in case some fool cyclist showed up.

Imagine my surprise when eight cyclist and the OBC photographer arrived.
All were regular Tuesday Night riders except, Frank who was a new OBC member
who proved to be a safe rider. if that was possible that night.

As it was the start of the year I gave Frank a short talk of the important
points of group riding. Photos were taken and we were off on time with very
large snow flakes, which got bigger as the tour progressed.

I had chosen a very short tour for number one and we did the data centre,
Uplands Drive, around the entrance to the Ottawa Airport, and returned by
the Airport Parkway. we road the whole tour single file, as this tour was
not about group riding, it was a rather wet taste of riding in adverse
weather.

It was interesting to note that as we rode back on the Airport Parkway cars
going to the Airport were backed up at a standstill as far North as Walkley
Road. A few gave us a cheerful honk of the horn.

I for once was glad to be the leader and ride in the front. this was proven
out back at Billings Bridge which I'm glad to say we all made it . However
on stopping I found everybody had a black face from road grit and just plain
wet dirt. In fact all riders were covered from head to foot in a layer of
muck.

It would have made some very interesting photos if the photos were taken
at the end of the ride rather than the beginning.

We did not waste to much time saying our goodbyes and everybody rushed home
to get out of their wet clothing. I noted that after cycling home and
stripping of all clothing, to be washed right away, as I headed for the
shower that it was only 6:43 PM. We sure crammed into one hour a very
interesting but wet, cold and dirty ride.

Cheers :-) Sir James
