Well not all us have such pleasant memories of that ride. Prior to departure at Britannia Beach, I did a count of who was riding the Humanathon. I had no intention of abusing my body by riding a double century. (I declare here and now, I never will.) I also would not have left without a reasonable Humanathon team. So I proceeded in the belief I had a pack of about 7 to ride with for the whole journey. Prior to arriving at Calabogie for breakfast I went back to find a couple of folks who were off the back. I didn't find them. They had taken a wrong turn just as they entered Calabogie and got back on track after I had passed the "wrong turn" on my way out. That added about 15km to my distance. When I got to the restaurant riders were preparing to leave. I found out the Humanathon pack was now down to me and three others and none of the latter were what I would call strong riders. To further complicate matters, on the way back, one of them severed a gear cable. You don't have to guess who got stuck with pulling the whole 140km or so back to Ottawa in those strong winds that were blowing out of the east that day.
