This is a big week for local road racing with an event every day except for Friday. In brief: Tues: Long course crit for A and B riders at the NRC (Seenite: Ross Knight), 6:30 pm Wed: Sprint competition 6:30 pm at Rochester/Beech, prizes Thurs: OBC Time Trial, 6:30 pm Sat: Carleton Place Crit., 7:00 pm start, licensed riders, one hour+ 5 laps, prizes Sun: Stella Artois Italian Festival Crit., 2:00 pm, licensed riders, 100 km, Gladstone/Rochester, prizes
As always, volunteers are needed to keep the roads closed, dogs under control and pedestrians from stepping off the sidewalks when the bunch zips past. The crucial events are the Sat. and Sunday races. If you can help out, please let me know. Food and drinks are always available and we have Stella Artois t-shirts for helpers. Several people sent me e-mails a few weeks ago and I responded saying I would be in touch this week. Those plans were fried with the implosion of my now defunct dust collecting old computer. I don't have your addresses to respond. Could you please send me another note? This year we have spot on the Italian circuit that will be missing a truly wonderful volunteer. Ian Fraser, Gord Fraser's Dad, passed away last August. He was always dependable and had a great disposition. He was always at the hot spot where car drivers just could not understand why they had to wait 30-60 seconds for the bunch to go past. Ian handled them all with a smile and diplomacy. A special tribute to Ian will be made at the start of the event. Thanks in advance to all.
