James - please find below a good article on electrolytes. I had a similar problem on Saturday after cycling 250 kms, my left leg was cramping, fortunately I had some electrolyte caps from Michael Lau that helped me finish another 360 kms by Sunday morning. I also drank a lot of fluids, but did not replace my potassium and sodium levels fast enough. If you look at your helmet and jersey, you probably had salt residue from your ride.
