Last Tuesday was the seasons longest Tuesday Night Tour.
They will start to get shorter now.

Sir James was very busy trying to sort out the cyclist for the two speed groups and
explaining the rules to two new OBC members in which one was a little nervous about
doing 68.1 Km's to Metcalfe.
Both Pat and Scott were present to lead the faster group which was a real help and I
supplied both with route maps, as it appeared that I was only to have 5 in the slower
group out of (quick count) of 27.

Route took us Riverside Dr. East, Smyth Rd., Russell Rd., Hawthorne Rd., Whyte Side
Rd., Ramsayville Rd.. Mitch Owen CR # 8, 8 th Line to Metcalfe, CR # 6 Main Street
Metcalfe to Highway 31, John Quinn North to Parkway Rd., East to Greely, Apple Orchard
Rd. to Manotick Station Rd., Bowesville Rd to Alert Rd., to Airport Parkway, Riverside
Dr. Billings Bridge.

The members of the slow group were given the option to take a shorter route as I felt
that they would not make it back before dark.
However they all decided to do the whole ride and watched the faster group depart
Metcalfe as they arrived.

You could not ask for a better night other than the cloud cover that blocked out the
setting sun, cool and no wind. However, As expected the pace started to slow a little
as some were riding I expect their longest ride.

We again ran into part of the faster group at Bowesville Rd and Alert, were there had
been a accident. I was informed by Pat that a wheel touched, a veered , a crash, three
cyclist involved. One bike not rideable. Pat had matters in hand and Rob was returning
with his van to pick up the bike and rider. They appeared okay at the time, but one
hurt his wrist and the other seemed a little dazed to me and may well find they did
some damage to themselves. As their was very little that I could do that was not
already in hand I ask Pat to phone Tom our Touring Director with the facts as best he
could. I learned on returning to Billings Bridge that Scott was further back and did
not see the accident.

Well at least My slow group returned safe, or did they? After informing the group at
Mitch Owen and Bowesville Rd. that if they wished to leave the pack for a more direct
route to home that it was okay as long as they let me know. I was talking to one of
the new members on Bowesville Rd. just before Alert Rd. We stopped for the accident
and then I though it best to get the slower riders home. On waiting and checking at
Alert and Airport Parkway, no new rider or at least I only had one of them. So we
returned to Billings Bridge as a group of four and hope our new member who was asked
to stay between John Twemlow and me (both had big lights) made it home safe?

It really was a nice ride, cool and no wind, Oh well there will be many more safe ones
in the future I'm sure.

Cheers :-( Sir James
