If this isn't the place to express opinions on matters relating to the Club,
I don't what is.
I think Avery should be commended for bringing back this event. It was
obviously lots of fun for the first two years. But I have to agree with
Hermann that the lack of consistency makes the event less meaningful. If
there is room for improvement fine. But as anyone can see, and as Celia has
aptly demonstrated, the new method is a step backward. Let's keep in mind
that an age handicap should level the playing field for older riders.
Clearly this is a job for a mathematician. No offence intended to Bruce who
did his best with what he was given and was merely doing as he was asked.
Kudos also to Bruce for his clear explanation of what transpired.
Nevertheless it seems strange that the complaints of one member were given
such weight. It's unfortunate that said member's comments were then
misconstrued and now fewer people are happy with the handicap method than
before the changes were made (including the person who complained)! How
should other members go about getting their voice heard and acted upon?
I suppose it would take a Board meeting to reverse all this and it is too
late for that now. If this were to happen, we could turn this back into a
fun event for all concerned.
