I will admit to being a lurker as well. Ironically, the OBCTopica forum goes
into my Hotmail Junk folder, I read it when I get the time, for amusement
more often than not. Lately, this list has developed a reputation of being
rather a waste of bandwidth.
I would rather the list, any list, be used for solicitation and sharing of
good ideas, comments, tech talk and the like, rather than bickering,
blamestorming and posting of someone's latest pat-me-on-the-back race
results. The list also seems to be reflective of the OBCs 'behind the door'
politics that have cause so many to begin splinter groups such as the West
Quebec Wheelers, and numerous other local clubs.
I am a moderator of numerous Questions lists at work. There isn't a
realistically feasible way to minimize the tendency for people to post
negative reactions or unfounded opinions. This is the beauty of democracy
and free speech, and more recently has found its' cadence on this anonymous
thing called the Internet. Each and every post, regardless of member, is
open to a counter post. Member/non-member list status will not be a solution
for long.
At the end of the day it is about THE BIKE. We cyclists, road and mountain,
are in limited numbers. Imagine what we could do if we all worked towards
the same goals.
Out of Chaos comes Order.
