Call for proposals for local and regional cultural activities in Syria, with European partners (deadline: 15 Sep)
The Delegation of the European Commission to Syria is seeking proposals for Local and Regional cultural activities in Syria with financial assistance from the MEDA Programme. Partners can come from EU, candidate and EEA countries. An information session on this call for proposals will be held on 9 July at 11 am at the Delegation premises, Najeeb Al-Rayyes St, Bldg. 3, Damascus You are advised to download the full information, guidelines and application procedure - here is a brief extract: In accordance with the social, cultural and human chapter of the Barcelona Declaration on the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, the programme of cultural activities of the Delegation of the European Commission to Syria 2007 calls for : a. greater tolerance, respect and cooperation between cultures and civilisations; b. promotion of mutual understanding, dialogue, exchange of ideas and the rapprochement between peoples through cultural exchanges; In order to realise these objectives, the Delegation of the European Commission to Syria provides funding for: 1. Local cultural activities: these are bilateral activities that involve a MEDA country (Syria) and at least: - Two EU Member States, or - One EU Member States and either a candidate country (Turkey, Croatia, and F.Y.R of Macedonia) or one from the European Economic Area (Iceland, Norway, Lichtenstein) A wide range of activities can be envisaged, in such different fields as dance, music, theatre, fine arts and exhibitions, etc These activities should promote exchange and dialogue among artists from Syria and Europe. 2. Regional cultural activities: these are joint activities, which include at least two countries of the MEDA Programme (Syria as one of them) and at least: - Two EU Member States, or - One EU Member States and either a candidate country (Turkey, Croatia, and F.Y.R of Macedonia) or one from the European Economic Area (Iceland, Norway, Lichtenstein) Like local cultural activities, regional cultural activities may include a wide range of possibilities in different fields. These activities can also be organised in cooperation with the European Union Member States or with cultural institutions of the Mediterranean Partners. Damascus will be the capital of culture for the Arab world in 2008.
