World of Art, School of Contemporary Art (www.worldofart.org) as an educational
program was introduced in 1997 by SCCA, Center for Contemporary Arts -
Ljubljana. It was developed out of a need for theoretical and practical
education in the field of contemporary visual art in Slovenia. With its complex
structure the World of Art is nowdays a unique theoretical and practical
educational school in Slovenia and in a broader Region (Central, Eastern and
South Europe). It has established the mechanisms necessary for reflective
operation in the world of art, and has been continuously developing and
adapting to the rapid changes emerging in the art world and social conditions.

In its 11th year the World of Art comprises: (1) annual educational program
including Course for curators/Laboratorium of Curatorial Practises with final
exhibition, (2) Seminar for writing, (3) Series of public lectures, and (4)
Anthology.

LABORATORIUM OF CURATORIAL PRACTICES

Tender for applications
Application deadline: 2. November 2007

Laboratorium of Curatorial Practices is formed as part of the effort of the
World of Art to establish a platform for discussion on curatorial practices in
the field of contemporary art.

Laboratorium of Curatorial Practices is researching the system of contemporary
art and possible ways of collaboration within it. It focuses at analysis,
contextualisation and valorization of the former achievements of the World of
Art which, as the only Slovene program in the field of education in
contemporary visual art, has formed a generation of young Slovene curators.

The public activities of Laboratorium take place at the Project Room SCCA,
discussions and reflections between the participants also occur on the Internet
(through forums and mailing lists), and regular informal meetings. Laboratorium
is conceived experimentally and demands active involvement of participants
within its working process.

In the frame of Laboratorium we will research contemporary art practise and
various ways of curatorial work. From January till May 2008 we will organize
several public events (discussions, talks, interventions) at the Project Room
SCCA in Ljubljana. In June 2008 we will prepare final exhibition of
Laboratorium at Alkatraz Gallery (AKC Metelkova City, Ljubljana).

We invite everybody who is interested in researching contemporary art practice,
curatorial and critical aparatus of contemporary art in theory and practice.
From you we expect basic knowledge on contemporary art, interest in individual
research and active participation in team work.

Laboratorium will start in November 2008. We will meet twice a month or as
needed. Apart from that our communication will be held via mailing list.
Program also includes academic trips around Slovenia and intensive working
weekends.

and advisors.
