OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS

uqbar and Marianna Dobkowska (Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski
Castle, Warsaw) invite you to participate in the Manual Creative Commons
project.

Manual CC is a Creative Commons license game - it can be replayed in any
chosen configuration, in any place and at any time. According to the
instructions made available in the exhibition space, the spectators
themselves are capable of recreating the works, that is game variants,
conceived by the artists. The participation of the spectators in the
exhibition consists both in making and using the work.

Rules

1...... The artist is supposed to send the instructions on how to complete
his work.

2...... The instructions, as a drawing or a handwritten text, should be
sent in A5 format to uqbar address.

3...... The work should be feasible to make and with easily accessible
materials at no or minimal financial cost for the present persons.

4...... The work has to be a kind of game, which means it is to possess
‘playability’ potential. It can be aimed both at one person and at a
number of people.

5...... The game can be realized multiple times and used, depending on its
character, inside the exhibition space on special playing tables or
outside in any public domain.

6...... All the works are realized under the Creative Commons
Attribution-Noncomercial 2.5 licence, due to which the whole exhibition as
well as its particular elements can be recreated for non-profit purposes
in any time and at any place with no consent of the artists and curators
required.

7...... English, Polish or German are the languages of the instructions,
as long as this does not interfere with the inherent nature of the work.

Please find enclosed the PDF version of the invitation to complete. The
original completed card in A5 format should be sent to the address of
uqbar until April 15th, 2008. You can also send an A5, 300dpi file of the
game by e-mail.

Manual CC has begun as a project by a group of 12 curators realized within
the framework of the Curatorial Studies at the Jagiellonian University in
Cracow, Poland in conjunction with Kronika in Bytom. In September 2007 the
project has been presented at Kronika accompanied by a book including over
80 artworks by Polish and international artists (list of artists
attached). A new edition in the form of an exhibition will take place at
Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw, April 25 - May 18,
2008.

At uqbar projectspace Manual CC will be presented in two phases: The first
is the presentation of the new Manual CC edition, which will be on display
at uqbar from April 3 to April 18. This allows the vistiors to realize the
instructions. On April 6, from 2 p.m. – open end a special Manual in
Action event takes place, and the audience has the opportunity to
implement the game instructions together with others.
The second phase includes the results of the open call. They will be on
dispay at uqbar from April 25 to May 18. On April 25 at 6 p.m. the second
Berlin edition of Manual CC will be opened and the visitors are invited to
realize the old and new games.

We hope Manual CC will gain your attention and you will enjoy
participating in it.
