Jubiläumsausgabe lädt das Kasseler Dokumentarfilm- und Videofest vom 11. bis 16. November 2008 nach Kassel ein, um die Vielfalt und aktuellen Tendenzen des dokumentarischen Schaffens zu präsentieren. An sechs Festivaltagen kommen ca. 230 internationale Dokumentarfilme sowie experimentelle und künstlerische Arbeiten zur Aufführung. Zusammen mit seinen drei weiteren medienübergreifenden Festivalsäulen ist das Profil des Kasseler Dokumentarfilmund Videofestes einzigartig: Mit der Präsentation von Medieninstallationen in der Ausstellung MONITORING wird das Medium Film aus dem Kinosaal in den Ausstellungskontext überführt; ergänzt durch ein audiovisuelles Live-Programm in der DokfestLounge sowie die interdisziplinäre Fachtagung interfiction. Darüber hinaus möchten wir uns im Jubiläumsjahr intensiv mit der vergangenen und zukünftigen Entwicklung des Festivals sowie den Facetten des dokumentarischen Schaffens auseinandersetzen und diese dokumentieren. Unter dem Titel "Berührungspunkte" wird beispielsweise eine Jubiläums-DVD erscheinen, die mit 25 internationalen Filmen und Videos eine Auswahl aus 25 Jahren filmischem Festivalprogramm zeigt. Wir laden ab sofort alle Künstler, Filmemacher, Verleiher, Galeristen, Hochschulen oder Institutionen ein, sich mit neuen Arbeiten und Projekten für die einzelnen Sektionen des Jubiläumsprogramms zu bewerben. Einsendeschluss ist der 21. Juli 2008. DOKUMENTARFILMVIDEOKUNST Der Dokumentarfilm ist für das Festival Tradition und Selbstverständnis. Ein starker Fokus liegt daher auf aktuellen Filmen und Videos, die ihre Themen mit dokumentarischen Mitteln untersuchen. Beim Kasseler Dokfest kommen aber nicht nur "klassische" lange Dokumentarfilme zur Aufführung, sondern auch solche, meist kurze Werke, die insbesondere die formalen Herangehensweisen des Dokumentarischen aufbrechen und beispielsweise experimentelle oder animierte Elemente mit dokumentarischen verbinden. Diese Hybride erweitern das Spektrum des Dokumentarfilms und ermöglichen ein vielfältiges Programm. Zur Einreichung sind Arbeiten jeder Länge zugelassen. MONITORING Die Ausstellung MONITORING befasst sich mit zeitgenössischen, raumbezogenen Positionen der Medienkunst, um den kinematographischen Rahmen und Raum des Festivals zu erweitern. Aus den Einreichungen werden 15 Medieninstallationen und -skulpturen ausgewählt, die während des Festivals im KulturBahnhof und im Kasseler Kunstverein präsentiert werden. Die Ausstellung wird in Kooperation mit dem Kasseler Kunstverein und dem Kulturdezernat/documenta Archiv der Stadt Kassel veranstaltet. AUDIOVISUELLE PERFORMANCE Die Lounge des Festivals zeigt ein Programm von audiovisuellen Performances und VJ-Kunst. Zur Einreichung eingeladen sind Live-Konzepte für Bewegtbild und Musik, Soundperformances, Live Visuals, VJing und jede Art von Experimenten in analogen oder digitalenMedien. INTERFICTION Die interfiction-Tagung mit Vorträgen, Präsentationen und Workshops wird in diesem Jahr unter dem Motto "RE/CYCLING INVENTION - WiedErfinden" nach den Innovationspotentialen digitaler und materialer Strategien und Praktiken des Recycling in Kultur und Kunst fragen. An einem transdisziplinären Austausch interessierte Künstler, Video- und Filmemacher, Vermittler, (Netz-)Kultur-Theoretiker und -Praktiker sind dazu eingeladen, im Rahmen der Tagung Thesen und Projekte zum Thema vorzustellen und zu diskutieren. Das Bemühen des Festivals um den filmischen Nachwuchs findet in dem durch die Stadt Kassel geförderten "Goldenen Schlüssel" für die beste dokumentarische Nachwuchsarbeit seinen Ausdruck. Das Preisgeld beträgt 5.000 Euro. Für den "Goldenen Herkules" freuen wir uns über einen neuen Preisstifter: Die Machbar GmbH, Agentur für Unternehmenskommunikation mit Hauptsitz in Kassel, vergibt den mit 2.500 Euro dotierten Preis an eine herausragende nordhessische Produktion. Die beste Installation der Ausstellung MONITORING wird mit dem "Golden Cube" und 2.500 Euro ausgezeichnet. On six days the festival presents about 230 international documentary films as well as experimental and artistic works. Together with its further three intermedia sections, the profile of the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival is unique: The exhibition MONITORING transfers the medium film from the cinema to the context of an exhibition in presenting contemporary media installations in addition to the film screenings. It is complemented with an audiovisual live program in the DokfestLounge as well as the interdisciplinary conference interfiction. Moreover, the 25th anniversary edition of the Kassel Dokfest shall be an occasion for looking on the past and future festival's development as well as documenting the facets of documentary work that has been presented in Kassel for the past 25 years. "Most Touching" is for instance the title of an anniversary DVD that shall be published with a collection of 25 international films and videos out of 25 years of festival history. We now invite all artists, filmmakers, distributors, gallery owners, universities or institutions to submit latest works and projects to the different sections of the anniversary festival program. Deadline for entries is July 21, 2008. DOCUMENTARYFILMVIDEOART The documentary film traditionally makes up the heart of the festival. Thus, the festival puts its main emphasis on films and videos exploring their subject by documentary means. But not only traditional documentary films, also particularly short works, that break down formal approaches to documentary filmmaking, i.e. in the combination of experimental or animated with documentary elements, are selected. Theses hybrids expand the scale of documentary work and contribute to a diverse screening program. There is no restriction in terms of the running time of submitted works. MONITORING The exhibition MONITORING is devoted to contemporary space-oriented media art in enhancing the cinematographic scope of the festival. 15 media installations and sculptures are selected among the entries and displayed during the festival at Kassel KulturBahnhof and Kassel Kunstverein. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Kassel Kunstverein and the documenta Archive of the City of Kassel. AUDIOVISUAL PERFORMANCE The lounge of the festival presents a program of audio-visual performances and VJ-art. This section is calling for live visuals, audiovisual performance concepts, Live Cinema, sound performances and any kind of experiments produced in analogue or digitalmedia. INTERFICTION "RE/CYCLING INVENTION": This year's interfiction symposium (with lectures, presentations and workshop-sessions) will ask for the innovative potentials of digital and material strategies and practices of recycling in arts and culture. Artists, video- and filmmakers, researchers, curators, writers, activists and others interested in transdisciplinary exchange on the related issues are invited to join the conference and to discuss their ideas and projects.
