Berliner Künstlerprogramm - international guest programme, Berlin deadline: Jan 1 2009
A jury annually selects approximately 20 international guests for the Berliner Künstlerprogramm 12 month residencies. Artists in the fields of literature, film and music may apply. In addition to the monthly grant, an apartment, workspace (studio) and funds for projects relating to Berlin are provided. Application forms The application form for the Berliner Künstlerprogramm can be downloaded here in formular.pdf The deadline in each case is January 1. The jury sitting will convene in the spring. To apply, please submit the completed application form and the following work materials: 1. Writers: Your publications (preferably in German, otherwise if possible in English or French) but please no more than 4 or 5 books; reviews. No manuscripts. 2. Composers: Scores, recordings (records, CDs, DVDs), videos, your publications, but please no more than 3 or 4 samples. All materials for each sound sample i.e. the score, a description of the work, photos, videos should be clearly collated for the jurors. If specific parts are to be listened to, they should be marked accordingly. 3. Filmmakers: Videotapes, DVDs (please note: copied DVDs are often not readable, therefore NTSC, PAL, Beta preferred), scripts but please no more than 2 work samples, preferably most recent works, with subtitles. Please include a synopsis of every film submitted. Maximum viewing time per candidate: 15 minutes. Thus, please mark the extracts which you would prefer to be viewed, especially with regards to long films. All materials submitted must be clearly marked with name and year created. For economic reasons, only original work material (books, scores, films) can be returned. Copies, manuscripts, copied CDs, DVDs and tapes will not be returned. The DAAD cannot assume any responsibility for submitted materials. Please note: Every year, invitations coupled with grants are extended to 20 internationally known younger artists to spend 12 months in Berlin. Invitations to filmmakers are issued for 6 months. In the field of visual arts, a commission recommends invitations to internationally known artists. Therefore, applications in the field of visual arts are not possible. An invitation to the Berliner Künstlerprogramm is one of the most sought- after scholarships in the world. Therefore, because of the exceptionally large number of applications compared to the limited number of scholarships available, many highly qualified applications cannot be considered. The non-acceptance of an application is not in any way a negative value-judgment about the artistic work of the applicant.
