Three artists, Daniel Seiple (USA), Doreen Uhlig (Germany) and Wu, Shang-Lin (Taiwan), showed remarkable strength and density which were based on unique research, understandings of surrounded culture and participation/cooperation of the local community and volunteers during the process. INTRODUCTION Artist-in-residence program of ARCUS Project which aims to support the artistic activities of emerging artists was launched in 1995 by Ibaraki Prefectural Government as its main organizer. In its 15 years history, ARCUS has invited 74 artists from 24 countries / regions, and supported their artistic projects and researches during the residence. A number of previous residency artists are now known as cutting- edge artists in international art scene. >From the year of 2010, ARCUS artist-in-residence program will focus more on the “process” of activities. Therefore, we are looking for a project which does not regard final presentation as a goal, but tries to conduct a site-specific research / project within a certain period of time. It is also expected that the research / project is open to the local community for sharing the process and collaboration. Since our program is aimed at promoting international exchanges, applicants should possess national of a country other than Japan. Not more than one artist will be selected from one country / region. II. ELIGIBILITY The Applicant should: --- be an emerging artist engaged in contemporary visual arts or other related fields **We only accept individual application. Group application is not permitted. --- have nationality of country other than Japan --- have legal permission to enter Japan --- be in a state of good health and able to carry out daily activities on his / her own --- have enough English skill to communicate with other artists and administration staff --- not be enrolled in educational institution (undergraduate, graduate school etc.) during the residency period III. PERIOD OF PROGRAM Late-September through December, 2010 IV. Program Provisions 1. Studio 2. Accommodation 3. Transportation Fee 4. Allowance 5. Insurance 6. Studio Office Support V. SCREENING AND ANNOUNCEMENT --- The expected number of artists to be invited is two. --- The screening process will be conducted in two stages, stage 1 and stage 2 (Selection Committee). Applicants who pass the first stage only will be passed through to the Selection Committee. --- The Selection Committee is scheduled for May, 2010. --- The final results will be announced and sent to the applicants by the end of June, 2010. --- Individual queries concerning the selection process will not be answered.
