International Contemporary Dance and Dance Theatre Festival and Jarmila Jeřábková Award 2010 Duncan Centre Theatre, Prague 25. - 29. November 2010 back run 2009 BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE FESTIVAL The New Europe Festival will present contemporary dance and dance theatre performances over the course of five festive evenings. These dance projects originated in countries which we have titled NEW EUROPE, knowing it to be a little exaggerative. These are in fact those countries that have either recently joined the European Union or which are leading discussions on joining the EU. During the Festival, selected choreographers under the age of thirty-five will present their dance projects, which are enhanced by new choreography and which have been created for the New Europe Festival based on classical music composed by Czech composer Jiří Teml. An international board will select three dance projects (during the Festival) and these will be awarded the Jarmila Jeřábková Award. PROGRAMM Thursday 25.11.2010 Opening night performance "The Best of Duncan" Friday 26.11.2010 Jarmila Jeřábková Award - Winners 2009 Saturday 27.11.2010 Choreographies on Jiří Teml´s music Sunday 28.11.2010 The Best of "New Europe" in 2010 Monday 29.11.2010 Live Music: concert Jiří Teml Winners 2010 REGISTERED DANCE PROJECTS MUST COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING PARAMETERS: dance, dance theatre duration from 8 to 20 minutes 1 to 5 performers first showing from 2009 to 2010, or has not been presented yet registered dance projects must comply with the technical parameters of the Duncan Centre Theatre (for more information refer to the section on Technical Information) Choreographers, that have been selected, will be contacted by May 10, 2010 and requested to create a choreography based on one of the compositions composed by Jiří Teml. The compositions from which these choreographers will be able to choose will be supplied by the organizer, upon request. Newly created dance projects must comply with the above stated parameters and must be sent as a video recording to the below stated address by September 30, 2010. Newly created choreographies will be presented as part of the Festival together with the registered dance project. FURTHER INFORMATION All the dance projects will be assessed and evaluated by an international board, which will select winning dance projects. These will be awarded prizes that amount to a total of CZK 130,000. Half of the funds won must be used to create a new project and these will be performed for the very first time at the Duncan Centre Theatre at the beginning of the next festival and competition in 2011. Dances and such will be prone to original light design and stage setting. Dance projects based on classical music composed by Jiří Teml, which will be performed on Saturday night, will be performed under limited light design (for more information refer to the section on Technical Information). The organizing party will reimburse the travel and accommodation expenses of the choreographers and dancers. No fees will be paid out for any dance or dance theatre performances. The organizer of the Festival is responsible for copyright fees. Participating artists (dance companies, organizations) are responsible for providing complete information about the dance projects used and their authors.
