Truth is concrete – Newsletter #2 24/7 marathon camp, 21/09 – 28/09/2012, Graz truthisconcrete.org Open call: 100 Travel & accommodation grants What role does art play in the whirl of political, ecological and economic events? Must art help solve those problems that politics and society have ignored for so long? Should art be a social or political tool, can it be useful? “Truth is concrete” is a 24-hour, 7-day marathon camp in the context of this years steirischer herbst festival: around 150 artists, activists and theorists lecture, perform, play, produce, discuss and collect artistic strategies in politics and political strategies in art. The camp takes the possibility of concrete truth as a working hypothesis and look for direct action, for concrete change and knowledge. For an art that engages in specific political and social situations – and for an activism that searches for intelligent, creative means of self-empowerment. The grant programme – covering travel, accommodation and food – invites 100 students, artists, activists and theorists from all over the world to Graz. Applicants are chosen according to qualifications but also with the aim of achieving a productive mix of people. Therefore application formalities should include a comprehensive description of your interest in the topic of the marathon, especially focussing on your own work related to artistic strategies in politics and political strategies. All applicants will be informed about the decisions at the beginning of June. Spoken language is English. Application deadline is 15/05/2012. For more detailed information on terms and conditions of the grant programme, please visit truthisconcrete.org/grant and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions. steirischer herbst festival, c/o grant programme, Sackstraße 17, 8010 Graz/Austria Fax +43 316 823 007 77, [email protected] Camp programme – confirmed contributions so far: Hans Abbing (NL), Ulf Aminde (D), Center for Political Beauty (D), Alice Creischer (D), Annie Dorsen (USA), Marcelo Expósito (ARG), Eleonora Fabião (BR), Dirk Fleischmann (ROK/D), Free Slow University Warsaw (PL), Isabelle Fremeaux (F), Ganzeer (ET), Federico Geller (ARG), The HairCut Before The Party (GB), Khaled Hourani (PS), Iconoclasistas (ARG), Jeudi Noir (F), John Jordan (GB/F), Jisun Kim (ROK), André Lepecki (USA/BR), Oliver Marchart (A), Antanas Mockus (CO), Mao Mollona (GB), Chantal Mouffe (GB/B), Public Movement (IL), Srđa Popović / CANVAS (SRB), raumlaborberlin (D), Oliver Ressler (A), Irit Rogoff (GB), Reverend Billy (USA), Andreas Siekmann (D), Kevin Smith / Platform (GB), Jonas Staal (NL), Kuba Szreder (PL), Teatr.doc (RUS), the vacuum cleaner (UK), WAGE (USA), Joanna Warsza (PL), Wochenklausur (A), Stephen Wright (CAN), Salam Yousry (ET), Michael Zinganel (A). | ||
