alternative education to photographers http://www.issp.lv/en/summer-school/2012/how-to-apply ISSP is designed for young professionals, students of photography and art, artists using photography, and amateurs with practical knowledge and keen interest in photographic practice. You must have an active relationship with the medium of photography and desire to bring it to a new level via intense learning experience. You must satisfy the following basic requirements: You have an active interest in photography as a medium of self-expression or are already professionally working in the field; You have engaged yourself in studying photography in a professional and/or arts school, a photo-club, or by means of self-study; You are proficient with the use of your camera (technical elements of photography are not a part of the ISSP curricula); You are at least 18 years old; there is no upper age limit for participation; You are able to understand and express yourself freely in English, the official language of the ISSP; If choosing to work in black&white, you must have technical knowledge of the BW process (developing films and making prints from negatives); If choosing to work digitally, you must have some background knowledge in processing and printing digital images. Your camera must have sufficient resolution to produce high quality A4 size prints; You must also agree to adhere to the rules of ISSP. Participation in ISSP for more than 3 consecutive years is not encouraged - the long-term participants are invited to apply as volunteers. Former ISSP students must show that they have been actively working on personal projects in photography since the last attendance (do not submit final works from ISSP in your portfolio selection, we have seen them already). To apply Submit an electronic APPLICATION FORM, including motivation for participation and a small portfolio selection of up to 12 photographs taken within last two years. Participation fees and costs ISSP is a non-commercial event, aimed to promote the development of emerging photographers in Latvia as well as broader Eastern Europe/CIS and further. The fees are kept at cost to allow the most talented participants to take part. Full participation fee is 500 eur, which includes campus accommodation and full board for 8 days. We also offer a limited number of fee subsidies for most qualified applicants from Latvia and Eastern Europe/CIS who cannot afford to pay the full fee. Subsidized participation fee is 260 eur. The students are responsible for the costs of film development and printing, transport costs to the location (including all visa-related costs if necessary), and their incidental expenses during the workshop. Selection of participants and timeline The ISSP has a limited number of spaces - we can accommodate up to 72 participants (10-12 per workshop). The most interesting and motivated candidates are selected based on their applications. The main selection criteria for potential students are their background, motivation, and quality of their prior work. Evaluation of applications is performed by invited experts-photographers. Workshop allocation is done taking into account the quality of applications and basic group dynamics factors. When admitted, you will be offered a place at a concrete workshop. The final decision on admission and allocation of subsidy scholarships is taken by ISSP. The results of selection process shall be communicated by email in early June.
