call for applications www.cjsm.vlaanderen.be/fransmasereelcentrum The FMC offers space for the development of graphic projects based on artistic production, research or based on an artistic/theoretical discourse. Eligible are professional artists, designers, theoreticians, critics and researchers who can present a consistent curriculum or a portfolio with relevance to the FMC as a graphic competence centre, or with added value for the current visual arts domain. Type A : General residency A residency of a minimum of four to a maximum of six weeks offers professional artists or graphic designers the opportunity to look more closely at different graphic techniques and/or explore new graphic applications in their own artistic practice. The FMC makes two technical staff members available, and prior knowledge of the graphic medium is not required. PROCEDURE The FMC works with a selection committee to guarantee objectivity, quality and diversity. This committee takes responsibility for the selection of the residents for the three different forms of residence offered by the FMC. Selection is based on a number of criteria and takes place three weeks after the final submission date of the application files at a closed meeting. Selected candidates are notified shortly thereafter. Chosen candidates receive brief details as a guide to possible participation in a following selection stage. HOW TO APPLY PORTFOLIO (registration file): to be uploaded on the new website from 15 July 2012 - Copy of identity card or passport - Detailed curriculum vitae covering the last three years - Personal motivation (max. 25 lines) - Artist Statement (max. 25 lines) - Max. 10 images with a clear description of the work The selection committee accepts analogue files or digital files with a maximum size of 1MB: JPEG, PDF, WORD, PPT and attachments in the form of catalogues and publications. CRITERIA - The project, as described with motives in the application, relates to one´s own (artistic) practice and to the working of the FMC. It represents added value for both parties and for current art circles. - The candidate shows a positive proactive attitude to the graphic medium in its historical and contemporary cultural context. - In his/her personal motivation the candidate expresses the choice for the graphic medium and the necessity of, or added value associated with participation in the FMC residence programme. -The personal motivation outlines the coherence of the project with the general oeuvre. -The selection committee uses conceptual and formal criteria, and evaluates the conformity of the application with the oeuvre. Type B : Research-oriented residency Residency of two months for researchers, artists and graphic designers for the purposes of researching the graphic medium. The residency fits in the frame work of the FMC as knowledge-centre and falls under the Expert Cluster* and good knowledge of the medium is a requirement. The residency closes with a public event in the form of a discussion. The FMC offers residency with the purposes of gathering expertise in the graphic medium from the scientific or artistic fields of study. The course of the research gives researchers the opportunity to refine already acquired information or generate new ideas on current processes. The infrastructure with graphic workshops and documentation centre as well as the collection, the archives and international network that the FMC makes available form an ideal laboratory for research-oriented residencies. The research results are given a place in the Expertise Cluster and contribute to the development of this platform for researchers in the graphic medium. The residency ends with a public event at which the focus is on dialogue with the public, experts and artists.
