Use this a The Presence of the Real is an international exhibition connecting
to the moment after a war or revolution when the real is present without the
promise of utopia or illusion, like a broken simulacra. In this context, the
cities and spaces appear as masterpieces of colorful patchworks and layers, and
through them one can see the past bursting forth into the present.

** Ilya Rabinovich’s series of photographs delve into the idealized founding
vision of Tel Aviv, Israel, by means of exploring the city’s urban landscape
during 1996-97. The photographs were an attempt to form a lexicon of sorts,
exploring the various styles, and the makeshift character, in which
architecture functions to create the aspirational promise of a Western European
city on the sand, a vision whose cracks become apparent through age and decay.
